Loch and River Fishing

Durness has four Lochs (Croispol, Borralie, Caladail and Lanlish) varying in character and size of fish, offering challenging wild brown trout angling in clear limestone waters. A fishing permit is required which can be obtained from the Keoldale Sheep Stock Club on +44 (0)1971 511 260.

Sea-Fishing

Inshore lobster, crab, scallop and prawn shellfish are activities carried out by a few of the crofters.

There is no large-scale commercial fishing from Durness but some people are employed from Kinlochbervie where mackerel, herring and halibut are the most common.

Shellfish Harvesting

Some people are known to harvest shelfish from the beaches and coastlines; these include mussels, cockles, winkles, oysters and razor fish.
